Wiener Linien employs around 8,700 people. Around 3,000 of these work on the underground system, 480 of whom as drivers.
While we are fairly familiar with their job, this is less so for other duties: for instance, supervising stations, checking signal boxes, developing vehicles and personnel, servicing and repairing technical equipment and trains.
And all this needs to be coordinated and planned while operations remain uninterrupted.
